The Economy
Investment in Local Economy
Oregon Seed Council and its members represent a diverse makeup of seed production. We are proud to announce that grass seed was the number three commodity in the state of Oregon in 2022. Known as the “grass seed capital of the world,” Oregon leads the nation in production of cool season grasses. This commodity has many benefits to the economy – bringing approximately $639.2 million direct dollars into the state, and through impact on support industries, spurs even more economic activity.
The industry drives employment in many areas of the state employing around 10,000 Oregonians through crop production companies, researchers, equipment dealers, seed technicians, transportation companies, marketing companies, and other operations.
Straw farmers bale the residue left after harvest and sell it as feed to beef and dairy producers internationally.
Screenings removed during seed cleaning are often pelletized and sold as feed supplements.
